Counselors are divided alphabetically by last name and serve students from 9-12th grade. SENIORS and senior parents, please note your assigned counselor for college applications & recommendations.

The Role of the School Counselor:

• Counsel individuals and small groups of students to meet identified needs.
• Consult with parents, teachers, and other staff regarding concerns about students' needs.
• Coordinate people and resources in the community for the benefit of students.
• Participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive counseling program to serve all students.
• Be familiar with and adhere to the ethical, legal, and professional standards of the counseling profession.
• Speak UP is an anonymous reporting system that enables Katy ISD students, parents, and community members to anonymously submit safety and well-being tips to help prevent school-related incidents that could cause harm to others.

Requesting Transcripts

Transcript requests are processed by the JHS Professional Registrar via SchooLinks. If you are applying to colleges via CommonApp or Apply Texas, please link your account to SchooLinks to allow for transcripts to be sent to universities.

Algebra 2 Notification

The information below is provided annually through school enews, and is important to note when planning your child's education. Graduation requirements for the Foundation High School Program + Endorsement (FHSPE) include four math credits, which must include Algebra I and Geometry credits, and two additional math credits. Algebra II is not specified as a graduation requirement; however, students who do not earn Algebra II credit are not eligible for: 

• Earning the Distinguished Level of Achievement (DLA), which requires completion of an endorsement with Algebra II among the four math credits, 
• Recognition as an honors or high honors graduate, 
• Automatic admission to a state public college or university, and 
• Certain financial aid opportunities, including the TEXAS grant or the Texas Educational Opportunity Grant.

Timeline for Course Level Change Requests

• FIRST 10 DAYS OF THE COURSE
  • Changes may be approved based on course availability. There will be no elective
    changes or science changes. This is only for level changes for KAP/AP courses. If
    academic courses are at capacity or an academic equivalent does not exist, the change
    cannot be made. PLease submit any Cahnges in the Course Change Request form.
• AFTER THE FIRST SIX WEEKS PROGRESS REPORT
  • Changes may be approved with teacher input and available space in academic.
    Students will need to submit a Petition to Exit form that will be given by the teacher and
    submitted to the counselor.
• END OF THE FIRST SIX WEEKS GRADING PERIOD
  • Students who earn an “F” at the end of a grading period will be removed from the
    course unless otherwise recommended by the teacher and administrator. Petition may be granted by the campus given input from the teacher and availability of space in the replacement course. Students will need to submit a Petition to Exit form that will be given by the teacher and submitted to the counselor.

SchooLinks is a modern, college and career readiness platform to prepare students for what comes after graduation. The program is a tool to assist students in discovering interests and strengths, explore colleges and careers, and create an individualized career and academic plan that best reflects their post-secondary goals. SchooLinks is accessible in 6th-12th grades by students and their parents through MyKaty Cloud. The program features are user-friendly and are designed to streamline the college and career readiness workflow for counselors and staff.

Using SchooLinks, students and families can:

• Access career interest, strength, and mindset surveys
• Explore 2-year and 4-year colleges
• Create course plans based on career pathways
• Take virtual reality college campus tours
• Search for scholarships
• Learn about financial aid
• Find internship and volunteer opportunities
• Explore traditional, emerging, and military career fields
• Create digital portfolios/resumes
• Communicate with counselors
• Create a Personal Graduation Plan
